Starting off with Refugee Week and ending with our first Annual General Meeting here at HOST we are looking back on a busy summer.
For one day only during Refugee Week we opened a 'Human Library' at the Central Library in partnership with Nottingham City Library Services. The event proved popular with a constant flow of participant speaking to 'Living Books' or enjoying a slice of cake while they waited.
The ethos behind the Human Library is to encourage people to enter into conversation with an individual from a community they may never have spoken to. Offering participants a unique opportunity to learn from the experiences of refugees and asylum seekers in the UK. Here is what some of the participants said:
"Wonderful event, life enriching"
"A highly worthwhile event, thanks”
Further to Refugee Week this Summer we launched our mentoring and befriending project with the first training session taking place in September. Furthermore, we started up a partnership with a community arts group Wonderland, taking part in the launch event of their project, we hope to develop this relationship in the coming months.
Finally at a packed out AGM we welcomed two new trustees, Jason and Maggie to the HOSt management committee and said goodbye to Bea and Nancy as they move onto pastures new. We would like to extend our gratitude and thanks to our departing trustees for all their support and help they have provided. The evening was a celebration of the organisation's achievements over the past year and looking on to another successful year.
